If getting back to nature is your thing, the Manning Valley offers 9 stunning National Parks and reserves, 45 kilometres of pristine coastline and the only double delta river system in Australia with two entrances to the ocean. This rugged natural environment was made for adventure with endless walking trails, mountain bike tracks, rapids, waterfalls, beaches, lookouts, fishing and more.

The great outdoors might be our biggest draw-card, but our 26 seaside and hinterland towns a villages are equally impressive and waiting to welcome you. Each town comes with its own unique vibe and offerings, from cute cafes and farmer’s markets to quirky festivals and vintage shops, we’re certain you’ll find something you love about each one.

The Manning Valley also features a wide variety of cultural and creative attractions. From quaint tea houses selling local crafts to galleries showcasing award-winning artists and entertainment venues, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.

Farquhar Inlet and Camping Ground

Located at the southern entrance to the Manning River, Farquhar Inlet offers far more than just a top fishing spot. There is plenty of calm water to enjoy all types of boating and watercraft activities.

Farquhar Inlet is also a camping ground which consists of 25 campsites set amongst shady trees with BBQ facilities and toilets available. Access to the park is by 4WD along the Manning Point beach (only on low tide) or by boat. Access via Old Bar is only possible when the entrance is closed.

Manning Point is both a riverside and seaside location, where the sea and the north arm of the Manning River meet at this idyllic point.

Located just 25 minutes drive east of Taree, Manning Point Beach is the perfect spot for families to visit. Old Bar Beach

Old Bar Beach is the closest surfing beach to Taree and just a 10-minute drive from the Pacific Highway.

Saltwater and Wallabi Point Beaches

Adjacent Saltwater and Wallabi Point beaches, just south of Old Bar, are perfect for surfing enthusiasts. These surfing meccas attract thousands of tourists every year who are in search the perfect wave.

These beaches are also great for families as there is a warm, shallow saltwater lagoon nestled against the picnic reserve, providing excellent swimming opportunities.

Saltwater National Park

Saltwater National Park adjoining Saltwater beach has special significance for the local Aboriginal community (Biripi). This National Park contains Aboriginal sites, which relate to Dreamtime beliefs and a section of the park has been declared an Aboriginal Place.

There is swimming and surfing at the ocean beach and canoeing in the tranquil waters of Khappinghat Creek. The lagoon nestled against the Reserve provides safe swimming for families.

The picnic area has gas BBQ’s, picnic tables, amenities and cold showers. Take a walk through the rainforest on the headland or explore the Five Islands walking track, which follows Khappinghat Creek in the Nature Reserve.… continue reading.

Manning Valley Libraries

Manning Valley Libraries includes five libraries across the Manning Valley at Taree, Wingham, Hallidays Point, Harrington and Old Bar. Our libraries are the ‘community lounge room’ – so when you visit one of our libraries you can browse for a book or DVD, lounge around in our comfy chairs and read a magazine or use the wi-fi or a computer. You can enjoy a wide range of regular and school holiday events and workshops. We have an extensive local history and family history archive of documents, images and printed resources – so why not look up an ancestor while you are visiting. We also have ‘print from anywhere’ facilities where you can print from your PC or mobile device to a library printer. Our libraries are open weekdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Taree Library is open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturdays.

Old Bar Beach Festival

Old Bar Beach Festival is a volunteer run free community event bringing many, many tourists and visitors to the Manning Valley. The festival is held on the Saturday and Sunday of the October long weekend at Old Bar Park.

Old Bar Walking Trail

There are various entry points the main ones being behind the Old Bar air strip and between Old Bar village and Mud Bishops Park.  There are 4km of scenic walking tracks and it is home to many bird species. Wallabies, koalas and echidnas have been sighted and during spring the wildflowers are abundant. Allow 1 hour.
